Joe Biden
Presidential Politics

Joe Biden is a solid and reasonably centrist pick for vice-president. He is experienced and respected. Delaware isn’t Montana or New Mexico, but the knock against Senator Biden, that he speaks his mind freely, perhaps too freely, should be regarded as a plus by most Westerners.

The conservative columnist David Brooks recently praised Biden’s working class roots, his honesty, and his loyalty, as well as his considerable experience. So, while my first choices for President and Vice-President were Westerners, I am more than satisfied with the ticket.

But the battlegrounds of 2008 will very much include the West, especially Colorado and Nevada, but also New Mexico and Montana, and perhaps even Alaska and Oregon. So the ticket and the party need to spend time and resources in the West.

On to Denver!
