Another shameful moment for Faux News
In case everyone missed the hoopla tonight, Faux News falsely reported that Richardson announced (on their network, of all places) was officially running for President:
"The governor didn't say that. He said, like he's been saying, that he'll make a decision in January," Richardson spokesman Gilbert Gallegos told The Tribune shortly after the report broke around 4 p.m..In a news release issued around 5:30 p.m. today, Gallegos added: “FOX News incorrectly reported that Governor Richardson has announced he will run for president. When asked directly whether he will run for president, Governor Richardson said he will make a final decision in January.
“Other comments from the interview were taken out of context based on a hypothetical question that FOX News posed about the Governor’s strengths should he run for president.”
Over at DailyKos, Kos chided Richardson and then quickly updated to reflect the correct situation.
Drudge linked to the same Faux story, again taking comments out of context (Drudge - taking things out of context! Say it isn't so!).
Our own Ken Camp (deserving some serious props), over at Washington for Richardson and DKos, played some serious forward defense, making sure that people understood the correct version of the story:
Just a short time ago, the Fox News noise machine incorrectly ran with a story (something they frequently do) saying that Governor Richardson has confirmed that he will be running for President in 2008. (And I hate linking to those guys over at Faux News)Just 15 minutes ago, Governor Richardson was on CNN's Situation Room and said the same thing he's been saying all along: He will make his decision on whether or not to run for President in January.
Another glorious Faux News moment, taking statements waaaaaay out of context and then splashing it all over it's front page. Look for Richardson's decision in January, if he makes one and look for the venue where he does it - bet you twenty grand it's not on Faux News.
