FBI Raids Offices of Alaska Legislators
Alaska, Legislatures

At least 6 Alaskan legislators had their offices raided by the FBI in an investigation into ties between the lawmakers and an oil field services company. One of the legislators whose office was raided , state Senate President Ben Stevens, is the son of U.S. Senator Ted Stevens.

A copy of one of the search warrants, obtained by The Associated Press, links the investigation to a new production tax law signed last month by Gov. Frank Murkowski and a draft natural gas pipeline contract Murkowski and the state's three largest oil companies negotiated.

The warrant called for seizure of documents concerning any payment made to lawmakers by Bill Allen and Richard Smith, executives of oil field services giant VECO Corp. Agents also looked for documents about contracts, agreements or employment of legislators provided by VECO, Allen, Smith and company president Peter Leathard.

Sought-after items named in the search include hats or other garments bearing the phrases "CBC," "Corrupt Bastards Club" or "Corrupt Bastards Caucus." What the names referred to was unclear, and authorities would not comment.

I'll tell you which corrupt bastards they're looking for. Maybe they're looking for the corrupt bastards at BP who are rolling in profit but allegedly manipulating the market. Or how about Ted Stevens, aka Mr. Bridge to Nowhere? Or maybe it's Governor Murkowski, aka Mr. Nepotism, who appointed his daughter U.S. Senator after he resigned to become Governor. How did that work out for you Frank? And so for good measure the FBI can take young Mr. Stevens and young Ms. Murkowski away with their parents. Alaska will be a much better place for it.

It seems to me that the reason Stevens, Murkowski, etc. were elected is that they knew there were human beings up here in Alaska.

So far as I can tell folks Outside think of Alaska in one of three ways.

1. Vacation land.
2. Source of raw materials.
3. Wild life park.

Southerners don't seem to understand that we actually are real humans, with real human needs. Like bridges, sewers, roads, airports, and all the other things that those Outside take for granted.

These Senators, for all their obvious faults, did "bring home the bacon". Without that, many thousands of those who live in the Bush would have NOTHING! And you don't care. They did. So we elected them, again and again and again.

And now, it's time to stop. Their sins are, IMO, completely unforgiveable, and I do hope Ted, his son Ben, Don Young, and all their associates go to some Pound-Me-In-The-Ass prison, and that for a long, long time.

Alaskans are not arrogant folk: reality intrudes too harshly for that. But Murkowski, Stevens et. al. ARE arrogant, and may they suffer for their crimes.

I am posting this in many blogs; I want you folks to know that there are PEOPLE up here, folks with needs, just like you. We're NOT just vacation land! And an airport, road, or ferry that you might call pork is often the only way to get to medical assistance, as just one example among many.

Hi..I'm a long-term blogger, got a couple of web sites, mainly focus on national issues. I got your link from Lefty Blog.

It sure sounds like the 'wild west,' up there. Good to see some folks are not lettting the criminal lawmakers get away scot-free. The 'Bridge to Nowhere,' made a lot of news down here. It seemed everyone who lived on that island could have been given a nice luxery yacht and it would be cheaper.

Anyhow...

Hi..I'm a long-term blogger, got a couple of web sites, mainly focus on national issues. I got your link from Lefty Blog.

I'm looking for one person in the State of Alaska to spend one day at the Secretary of State's office and do one thing and I'm writing to encourage someone doing that. (I'm actually looking for such a person in seven states.)

My idea, starting petitions for Recall Elections against seven Republican governors is something extra, something we can do now to continue working against Bush-Republican policies, something one single individual can start by themselves, something that will not just make long-term national news but something that will impact upon national policy.

There are only seven states where this can be done:

ALASKA ( SARAH PALIN) CALIFORNIA (ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER) GEORGIA (SONNY PERDUE) IDAHO ( C.L. "BUTCH,' OTTER) NEVADA (JIM GIBBONS) NORTH DAKOTA (JOHN HOEVEN ) RHODE ISLAND (DONALD L. CARCIERI)

__________

Would this make news?
Big Time

Would this have a real impact on political policy?
For sure.

Can this be started by anyone with ten-cents in their pocket?
As long as they have the gas to get to the Secretary of States office.

What if they mess up?
Someone else can re-start it the next day.

Complete details about this idea (part of a 3-part plan) you can check out the web page, at: http://www.americancitizenstogether.org/ACT/RecallDriveCampaign.html

Talk it over with some of your friends.

Let me know what you think, ok? If you can't do this yourself or none of the activist you know can do it, who do you think I should contact in the State of Alaska?

Sincerely,

P.S. I live in the desert of rural Arizona. Some of our environmental issues are a bit different (ha).
Got any water up there?
