Blog of Enchantment
Governors, New Mexico, Statewides

For those that are interested, I've been pointed in the direction of an exciting new location in the blogosphere.

Bill Richardson's website now has a working blog:

http://blog.billrichardson2006.com/

While the blog is still in it's early stages, you can already create a profile and start posting diaries. It says quite a bit that the campaign has put together a blog of this quality that allows such direct user interface and connection.

I'll also give props to those that put together the Guv's website - it's clean, very New Mexican and contains quite a bit of content for a man running for re-election at 65% approval rating.

I'm looking forward to seeing some Western Dem readers on that blog - I'll be posting as Frontier Democrat, my handle on DailyKos as well.

Let's keep some energy on the blog because you know the campaign's watching to make sure people like us use it. If you're a Richardson fan (I won't pretend to admit I'm not), head on over and start posting. If you're not, check it out anyway during this election season and learn some more about the man and what he has done for New Mexico.

See ya'll there.

Richardson's great, but this post is unrelated.

There seems to be few posters around anymore besides myself, so you know what you folks should do is turn WesternDemocrat.com into a PAC. It's fine as a Democratic-oriented political news outlet, but perhaps you should morph it into what the group "Democrats For The West" never became, sort of a grassroots site focused purely on western states and raising money for the Democrats in them. Just a thought.

Dear BlueDog,

Excellent idea. Frontier PAC never quite got off the ground. The issue is money or rather the lack of it. Honest money in large doses isn't so easy to find, and we refuse to go after the other kind. We have been discussing something like an Act Blue page. It would be great to have a matching donor. In the meantime, we not only provide news, but some honest and heartfelt opinions.

As a former New Mexican (gone a mere three months into the wilderness of Connecticut), Bill's authenticity is one of the things I miss.

Don't get me wrong, ya'll have a fantastic site.

DFW (Democrats for the West) was a great idea in theory, but as I discussed with my friend, former WY Sec of State Kathy Karpan (shameless name-dropping), all of these former western Democratic stars that lent their name to DFW did ONLY that: they created no infrastructure, hired almost no individuals to run the day-to-day operation, and floundered a great opportunity.

What you guys could do, because you seem to have connections in most of the western states, is begin brainstorming ideas to do what DFW could not. I realize with us Dems and Dem-affiliated organizations, money is always tight, but if you can at least start an initial group of individuals, print-out a fairly cheap newsletter asking for say something as little as $10 (offering membership into this PAC), that would at least get the ball rolling. Maybe find a former big name democratic politician that could lend some gravitas/legitimacy to the group too. Again, these are just thoughts at the top of my head.
