Schweitzer, Richardson and Enron (would have been)
Governors, Montana, New Mexico

Did anyone notice that when Molly Ivins needed to name two Democratic governors who would have kicked Ken Lay to the curb had he come asking for hand-outs, it was two Western Dems? Check it out:

The interesting thing about Lay and Skilling is they weren't trying to evade the rules, they were rigging the rules in their favor. The fix was in -- much of it law passed by former Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas, whose wife, Wendy, served on the board of Enron.

Where does that sense of entitlement come from? What makes a Ken Lay think he can call the governor of Texas and ask him to soften up Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania on electricity deregulation? Not that being governor of Texas has ever been an office of much majesty, but a corporate robber wouldn't think of doing that if it were Brian Schweitzer of Montana or Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

The extent to which not just state legislatures but the Congress of the United States are now run by large corporate special interests is beyond mere recognition as fact. The takeover is complete. Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay put in place a system in which it's not a question of letting the head of the camel into the tent -- the camels run the place.

If you want to build a Rocky Mountain West that might be "blue," it's best not to use Molly Ivins to try to do so. In a column from about a month ago, she lambasted every Democrat to the right of Sen. Russ Feingold (WI), including Gov. Mark Warner, who most rational Democrats recognize as one of our finest likely candidates in 2008. And Russ Feingold is the most ultra-leftist member in the Senate.

Ivins is an extremist too, and should be relegated to the margins as such.

However regardless: Schweitzer and Richardson (as well as their western Democratic gubernatorial allies) do kick ass.

Dude, WyoBlueDog, what's your deal? Seriously, it seems like every post on this site made by you has just been to bash the Democratic Party.

I like Molly's columns a lot. She won't appeal to everyone, but she calls 'em likes she sees 'em and understands the plight of the little guy struggling against the power of the GOP establishment and spin machine. I admire that as well as her sense of humor.
