Congress, Utah

Only a Western Democrat, Jim Matheson (D-UT), had the guts to speak up to question and oppose a congressional pay raise. His effort was defeated on a 249-167 vote.

The system is now such that Congress gets a pay raise without voting. Contrast that to the frozen minimum wage.

Jim understands that most Americans are coping with high gas prices and that an automatic pay raise is inappropriate in a time of soaring deficits. He will donate his raise to local charities.

I love Matheson. I don't know if he can climb the poltical ladder much higher in Utah, but maybe he should at least ponder a run for President?....

I love Matheson too. I have worked on his campaigns, and interned in his Washington DC Office. I think Jim has a good chance of at least getting elected to a state wide office. He has a huge district which gives him a good base of support should he choose to run for a state office. Jim is a very savy politico though, and won't make the mistake of running in a race he doesn't think he has a really good shout at winning ie challenging Hatch, Bennett, or Huntsman.
