Two Western Republicans Among Five Worst Senators
Time Magazine released its list of the top 10 best senators and the top five (bottom five?) worst senators. Among the five worst? Two Republicans from the West: Colorado's Wayne Allard and Montana's Conrad Burns.
Now, Burns is an easy pick. After all, the ethically-challenged fellow is under fire from all corners. He's also an offensive punk:
For starters, he is serially offensive. In the last campaign, Burns called Arabs "ragheads" and had to apologize. In 1994 he played along when a rancher made a demeaning comment about African Americans. Last month he told a woman, within earshot of the media, that he was looking forward to getting "knee-walking drunk."
According to Time, Allard (known to his pals as "Senator Dullard) is an affable nitwit:
Now in his 10th year, Allard almost never plays a role in major legislation, even though he's on two key Senate committees, Budget and Appropriations. ... Despite his skimpy record, Allard, 62, is well liked among his colleagues. He's polite, affable and willing to take on thankless tasks, such as his current role overseeing the construction of a visitors center on Capitol Hill. ... one of its least influential senators.
