Schweitzer in Idaho

Schweitzer rallying the troops in Idaho.
Matt Singer, "Idaho Bolos":
It looks like Brian Schweitzer spread some Bolo tie love to Idaho last night with a crowd of several hundred and Congressional candidate Larry Grant. Democrats in Idaho do the work of angels. I’ve written here before that it is a state to keep an eye on. The Dems there are getting their act together. Of course, they still face one of the few states where Congressional candidates can run proudly with Bush at their side. Of course, Freudenthal pulled it off in Wyoming and Matheson is getting ‘er done in Utah. Anything is possible.
Grassroots for Grant, "Great Night to Be a Democrat":
"I have a philosophy about elections. I believe issues divide and values unite." - Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, keynote speech at the Ada County Democrats' JFK BanquetThe headline in the Idaho Statesman today says "Montana governor tries to cheer up Democrats." The truth was that several hundred Dems who packed the ballroom at Boise's Grove Hotel on Tuesday night hardly needed perking up. We are raring to go for 2006, with great candidates ready to lead for a change.
...Schweitzer noted how Republicans have tried to demonize Democrats as godless and anti-family, but he said such stereotypes simply don't fit Democrats in the Mountain states, who know that true family values include good jobs, strong education, and affordable health care.
So Montana Democrats have put in place such innovations as a program that pays for 50 percent of health insurance premiums for businesses with two to nine employees; an ambitious plan to develop Montana's windpower, biodiesel, and clean-coal industries; and an effort called "Warm Hearts for Warm Homes," which has mobilized Montanans to weatherize homes for energy savings and set up a buddy system so neighbors can look out for one another during the cold months ahead. "We have neighbors calling on neighbors," he said. "We will not leave anyone behind."
Those are real family values - and real Democratic values.
