Bill Richardson stakes out the center
Governors

Check out Survey USA. Bill Richardson’s popularity is high and rising.

Check out recent interviews here and here and his new book.

From the MSNBC/Newsweek interview:

I believe a minority or a woman could be elected. It’s just got to be the right message. You’ve got to appeal to the American mainstream. You can’t run as a woman or a Hispanic. You run as an American, a healer. And I believe such a candidate, regardless of their ethnicity, could be elected.

The Republican agenda is not working and collapsing. There’s no sensible Iraq policy. We have huge deficits and ineffective response to natural disasters. On the positive side, I believe we can’t just criticize the collapse of the Republican agenda. We have to come up with concrete policy proposals of our own on economic growth, education, health care, national security and Iraq.

From the Imus interview

The non-candidate seemed pleased when Imus complimented him, saying, "In New Mexico even the people who don’t like you, like you...”

See also a short book review here.

Definitely a man to watch.

Move to NM and you won't like him as much. And read up on the Wen Ho Lee case to get some insight into what this man is willing to sacrifice to stay on the upside. Richardson can be effective in many ways but his baggage is considerable. It's all about him, believe me, not about the country.
