"There is an organization that supports my goals" again
Ever since this entire Western Democrat (Win the West) thing started for me, I've been watching for Democrats For The West to make their presence known. They pretty much flew under the radar with their early work for the Western Primary, but now it looks like they're ready for prime time with their redesigned website.
Best part of the new site, in addition to hopefully being updated more often so we can keep up with what this important group is doing, is the link to this column from the DC Examiner: "Look west, Democrat." Not an original headline by any stretch, but its important to hear from such an East-coast place:
Democratic success in the West is not unprecedented. The region once sent liberal-leaning Democrats to Washington, including Sens. Frank Church of Idaho, Mike Mansfield of Montana and Warren Magnuson of Washington state, and U.S. Reps. Mo and Stewart Udall of Arizona (the latter having also served as Interior secretary). The region began to turn away from Democrats amid the "sagebrush" rebellion of the 1970s and 1980s ,when locals responded negatively to activist federal policy over land use issues such as mining and grazing rights.
If approached and courted correctly, voters could be receptive to similar electoral rebellion against governing Republicans and give a Democratic presidential candidate a shot at electoral redemption.
