Larry Grant for Congress
Congress, Idaho, The Big Strategy

You couldn't have cooked up a more perfect storm than is the one brewing in Idaho right now. While six Republicans are lining up to replace Butch Otter, Larry Grant has an open shot to the November 2006 ballot. Hopefully, we get to see Republicans kicking the crap out of eachother, while Grant builds his new-economy, Western Democrat cred.

Red State Rebels:

With his strong business background and fiscally conservative views, Grant will give Idaho Dems a real shot at capturing the open seat next year. I heard him speak at the Ada County Democrats' monthly meeting a few weeks ago and was impressed with his pragmatic and progressive views on issues ranging from Iraq (for which he outlined a four-step plan to help end the war) to trade. ("Free trade is good but the object should be to raise standards elsewhere, not lower our own.") "Frankly, this country deserves better than it's getting," Grant told us that night.

Some call the Idaho-1 a Republican lock, that they could put up a GOPer so dumb that they need to be watered and he could win. Anyway, I think Larry Grant is too smart to get beat by that kind of Republican. Montana was an impossible win last year and Dems didn't even field a candidate in the Idaho Senate race last year. The next target for Western Democrats should be the Idaho-1.

In '06 I think there should be more attention paid to Montana. We made great strides there but there's still work to be done. There's still 1 republican senate seat in Montana just waiting to be taken and one House seat that is held by the GOP. Also the State house is tied. I would like to see a completely blue Montana. One where us Democrats have a 10 seat edge in the State house, or more, and 2 Democratic Senators from Montana and a Montana Rep. with a D next to his name. Lets not lose focus.

It's my understanding that Club for Growth is going to run attack ads against Grant. Perhaps a wise use of funds would be to run a commercial educating voters about who the Club for Growth is and how their interests aren't those of Idahoans.

I just wanted you know that I was considering voting for Larry Grant and after seeing the ad that you are running attacking Bill Sali the way you have chosen to do. I will not even consider it!!!
