Sitting guv, Napolitano, leads early polls for '06
Arizona

Hm, stange, the incumbent is leading in early polling... This isn't surprising, but we don't talk enough about Arizona's Dem governor.

Gov. Janet Napolitano enjoys a comfortable but not-insurmountable lead over her two most likely Republican rivals in the 2006 governor's race, according to a poll done by The Arizona Republic.

The survey of 602 Arizonans, which was done from Monday through Wednesday, shows that Napolitano leads former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley by 18 percentage points and U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., by 19 percentage points.

Depending on who's spinning results, the poll indicates a commanding lead for Napolitano or encouraging news for a pair of Republicans who haven't yet decided to run.
