Rosenberg in the West
Simon Rosenberg makes a startling and eye opening appearance on leftinthewest.com via a summation of a conference call. Wow, Simon (sniff, sniff), I never thought you felt that way.
Anyway, for Simon it ain't what you do, its the way thatcha do it that matters, and he makes a bunch of interesting observations regarding the Interior West and how Dems would best be served organizing in the region. "Out west, population density means that we are prime candidates for aggressive use of the netroots."
I'm loath to summarize a summary, so take from it what you will. Its a great read if you're interested in the DNC race. Ok, I will make one observation. It isn’t necessary for us to have a DNC from the West for the DNC to help us in the West. Therefore, the best DNC chair for the West may come from Maryland.

Uhhh, isn't that the whole point of this site? I'm sold.

I can tell you that he passes the Budweiser test and has a good record of focusing out west. But keep your eyes on the race, this is important stuff. Over in Washington State, upper left says, "Based on my experience as a State and County Committeman and a District Chair, I judge him as the leader we need and, in fact, have long needed."
More westerners (via Jerome):
Hill e-news:Simon's supporters: Reps. Ben Chandler (D-Ky.), Artur Davis (D-Ala.), Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) and Adam Smith (D-Wash.) have all endorsed New Democrat Network president Simon Rosenberg to be chairman of the Democratic National Committee. They believe that Rosenberg knows how to win in "red" America, and embrace his 50-state strategy. Former Gov. Tony Knowles (D-Alaska) also backs Rosenberg.
Richardson, in todays Albuquerque Journal, singled out Rosenber to say, "He's become a serious candidate and he's got good New Mexico ties".

How about an '08 convention in Denver--or better yet, Pueblo--featuring Ken and John "send a farmer to Congress" Salazar. Anybody know how that decision gets made and how we can help get it done? In recognition of the clear importance of the West and of Hispanics to our electoral future, how can we get the '08 convention to be held somewhere in the Southwest?

I thought you might like this final quote from the Contra Costa Time:
But the West's strong independent streak and Latino population will give Democrats a fighting chance there in 2006 and 2008, said Simon Rosenberg, president of the New Democrat Network.
"What I believe is going on right now is that Bush's brand of conservatism, which is playing very well among social conservatives, is not playing well among Libertarians," said Rosenberg, who is mulling a run for chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee.
"The West has a very different brand of conservatives and liberals than the South."
[...]
But the party must make more aggressive inroads in the West, particularly among Latinos, to win a presidential election, Rosenberg and other Democratic leaders said. Democrats are already showing nascent gains there.
