More on Webb
From the AP, via Casper Star:
Webb is a DNC vice chair. In a letter to voting members of the committee, he said the party must be rebuilt from the bottom up and the next chair ''should come from a 'red state' and should not be from inside the Washington, D.C., Beltway.''Colorado is a red state - one that voted for President Bush in November. The Democratic Party is reeling after Bush won most of middle America and Republicans gained ground in the Senate and House.
While Bush won Colorado, it was one of the few red states where his margin of victory shrank from 2000. Democrats also won two open seats in Congress that had been held by Republicans: Ken Salazar won a Senate seat, while his brother, John, also won in the House, providing two of the Democrats' few bright spots.
Democrats also took over both chambers of the state Legislature for the first time since 1960.
''I think he's certainly qualified for the job,'' said Bob Loevy, a political science professor at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
Loevy noted that Webb, who is black, was elected mayor three times in a city that is only about 12 percent. ''He proved his support reaches way beyond any particular minority group,'' he said.
Webb couldn't run seek re-election because of term limits.
Party leaders and political experts have said Democrats need to expand their base past the two coasts and that the Southwest is a logical place to do that.
''If you buy that argument, who better than a minority, three-term mayor of a major Southwestern state to lead the Democratic Party,'' Loevy said. ''The only thing you can knock (Webb) for is that Colorado is a relatively small state.''
I buy that argument.

Hi all,
The Caspar Star article is incorrect. The only open congressional seat in Colorado was the 3rd. Democrats won the 3rd District which was held by Republican Scott McInnis.
Incumbents re-elected include DeGette CD-1, Udall CD-2, Musgrave CD-4, Hefley CD-5, Tancredo CD-6, Beauprez CD-7. Here's the link to the Rocky Mountain News election results, http://rockymountainnews.com/drmn/election/0,1299,DRMN_36,00.html. Colorado did take a giant step to the middle.

Good God! Webb is a fool who should not be let anywhere near the leadership of the DNC. Unless of course we wish to continue losing Prez elections to raging chimps...

Care to elaborate?

I don't agee he is a fool, but I will say that he's a bad choice. Webb never enjoyed any success in Denver's Latino/a neighborhoods and is reviled in the bluing suburbs.
Personally, I'm pissed off that he cost Colorado taxpayers something like $60 million by holding out on the naming rights to the Bronco's stadium. He wanted it to keep the Mile Hi name. Yeah, that's sure worth $60 million.
There are better choices than Webb, including Freudenthal.
