Even the crazy WashTimes is hearing the call
I thought it was a little nuts when USA Today did their story, the Nation made sence, but here is the Washington Times in their coverage of Western Dems:
Colorado Democratic Chairman Christopher T. Gates said the direction is definitely West and center."I don't think the answer for the party is to move farther to the left. I think the victories we had here in Colorado reflect that," he said.
Although he wouldn't say who he favored for the position, he did say Mr. Webb would be a solid candidate.
"Wellington Webb is certainly one of a dozen people looking at running for chair, and I think he is the former mayor of a growing city and from the West, where we all think the future of the party is."
Mr. Gates said the party's job and that of the chairman should not include setting ideology.
"Our job is to win elections. It's the candidates who should be the ones setting their own platforms and ideas and standing for something," he said.
Although they did miss the boat a bit, trying to boil it down to a "lets drag the part to the left, to the right" type of story.

I like Mayor Webb a lot, but to feel confident in him as DNC Chair I'd have to hear how he'd build a much bigger and more capable Democratic machine - one that can provide infrastructure resources such as training, data, and media reinforcement all the way down to the county level.
At the county level I'm ready to work my tail off to build a highly effective grassroots operation here behind enemy lines. So far the DNC is completely irrelevant to us, and I want that to change - we could use some air support.

(and yes, we know that sometimes they're very, very wrong. Other times, they're right on.)
